Aroha’s brief from the airport was to create a space that was Fresh / Modern and Urban, and should touch on the airport’s overall theme of land, sea and sky.

With a 9 meter high base build ceiling, the key design feature consisted of a portal at 6.3 m high clad in aqua hue patterned panels, with timber arches extending out over the tenancy and into the neighbouring food court area, a nod back to tree canopies in New Zealand’s national parks. The colour palette was developed of layers of blue and green, referencing back to the land, sea and sky with touches of urban materials of mesh and concrete look flooring to balance out.
